ACE HOTEL'S BLACK: THE LITERARY SALON
Ace Hotel in Shoreditch is excited to launch BLACK: The Literary Salon, starting on the rooftop on Thursday 27th February. This quarterly series by Cassava Republic Press will be the kind of literary space that has never existed before and been led by a team of POC - its an engagement of a community.
Black writers and writing will take centre stage, as there’s a shift away from more tokenistic representation, and the intention is to provide a platform to probe deeply into selected themes.
The first one is titled ‘Love And Desire Spin The World’ and the writers confirmed are Diana Evans, who is the award-winning, bestselling author of Ordinary People, The Wonder and 26a; Irenosen Okojie, who’s had work featured in The New York Times and Observer, amongst other publications; and Olumide Popoola, who’s debut novel When We Speak of Nothing was named one of the Guardian’s Best Books of 2017. This will be on 27th February at 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Further dates will be: Thursday 28th May - Exploring Maleness, Masculinity and Selfhood; and Thursday 24th September - Writing Stories, Making Histories. For more details please visit www.blacktheliterarysalon.co.uk and tickets can be purchased for £16.76 via eventbrite here.
