BONG BONGS TO LAUNCH

12/05/2021

Bong Bong’s Manila Kanteen, from Lee Johnson and Sinead Campbell, the team behind Million Pound Menu winning food truck BBQ Dreamz, has found a new home within KERB’s indoor food market in the heart of Covent Garden, at Seven Dials Market.

Bong Bong’s will be open for lunch and dinner from 17th May, and will be offering 50% off food for the first three days, before officially opening on Thursday 20th May.

At Seven Dials Market diners will be transported to Manila, capital of the Philippines, and will be met by a riot of colour, bright pink LED lighting, unapologetically fake tropical plants, Filipino paraphernalia and gorgeously garish palm tree wallpaper. The Kanteen promises to be a party all day every day, not only through its décor, but through its friendly ‘mabuhay’, informal service and of course, the Filipino-inspired menu.

Johnson and Campbell use the foundations of Filipino cuisine – vinegar, star anise, bay, garlic, ube (purple yam), coconut, mango and of course, calamansi (the citrus fruit native to the Philippines) – and then add their own unique twist. Pop by for lunch and be treated to Bong Bong’s famous Lechon Kawali – fragrant crispy pork belly served with steamed jasmine rice, sesame bean salad, pickled cucumbers and a coriander, fish sauce and ginger dressing; Adobo Glazed Cauliflower – served with lime aioli, spring onion, coriander, chilli, nigella seeds and lime; Satay Duck Heart Skewers – with lime, spring onion and chicharron.

Dinner, meanwhile, will be a Filipino feast. Crispy Pata Pancakes come with 24hr sous vide pork hock, roasted in the oven for a crispy finish, think duck pancakes but with a Filipino pork twist, served with atchara (traditional pickled vegetables), pancakes, Mang Tomas (pork liver) sauce, chicharron, coriander, lime, spring onion and chilli. Alongside the pork is the Sizzling Mushrooms Sisig Pancakes – stir fried mushrooms, served on a hot sizzling plate with the accompaniments.
