FERNANDO TROCCA TO OPEN MOSTRADOR POP-UP

17/10/2022

World-renowned Argentinian chef and restaurateur Fernando Trocca is set to open the first London outpost of his family-style dining concept, Mostrador, on Wednesday 26th October for six months. Following success in Montauk, Uruguay and Buenos Aires, the 100-cover pop-up is the UK counterpart to a global Mostrador legacy. The restaurant will specialise in all-day dining, offering abundant, seasonal produce and freshly baked pastries served all day.

Famed for his casual take on fine dining, Trocca’s inspiration comes from the “mostradores”, or counter-service eateries, across Latin America. Diners should expect plentiful, showstopping salads and simply prepared proteins with a strong focus on locally sourced, quality ingredients. The relaxed, yet elevated setting makes Mostrador the perfect spot for an early morning coffee, working lunch, late afternoon tipple or dinner date.

The kitchen team will be led by Jack Godik, who was previously Head Chef of Jason Atherton’s The Little Social and comes with experience from Trocca’s original Mostrador in Uruguay. The team of seven pastry chefs bake fresh bread, pastries and cakes daily, but foremost, the proposal is healthy dishes with about 80% being vegetarian.

Dishes will change on a regular basis to accommodate seasonality and availability. An example of Mostrador’s signature dishes include:

Breakfast

Chia pudding, almonds, coconut, orange wedges

“Mostrador” French toast

Veggie scrambled eggs

Sweets

Medialunas (Argentinian croissant)

Walnut and pear frangipane

Morning bun

Savoury Mostrador

Butternut squash, honey, lime, cinnamon vinaigrette, kale, feta

Sweet potato, Latin Criolla sauce, fresh coriander

Roasted beets, goats cheese, hazelnut, white peaches, fresh mint vinaigrette

“We opened Mostrador in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay, 10 years ago as a beach dining spot that opens for the season (December to March), which is the summer in that part of the world. It’s a concept we’ve always wanted to grow,” says Fernando Trocca, “we work with seasonal fruits and vegetables prepared in an original way. Mostrador, for me, is the Revolution of Simplicity”.

The space, which once served as a cabinetmaker’s on Great Eastern Street in the 1800s, has since been transformed into the bright and spacious Shoreditch oasis which will play host to Mostrador. A welcoming, yet elevated, atmosphere surrounds the counter of salads piled high, while bright fabric and tassel garlands drape the ceilings. The space evokes a sense of playfulness and perfectly encapsulates laid-back excellence.

Mostrador will open for pastries and lunch from 26th October between 12pm and 3:30pm, followed by all day dining, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner from 8am to 11pm from the 31st October. Dishes will also be available to-go in eco-friendly packaging.
