Lily Vanilli is a baking goddess. Her bespoke cakes have won her a tribe of loyal followers who love her unconventional and intricate designs. She has penned three baking books, including the charity recipe book Bake For Syria, and runs a café on Columbia Road.

What was one of the very first dishes you remember eating?

Honestly I was raised on DIY freezer food, microwave meals and cereal. It was only after I left home that I learned anything about food worth knowing. Strawberry Pop Tarts stand out from memory.


Who is your food hero?

Nigel Slater


What is your guiltiest food pleasure?

Chips and red wine.


Which restaurant to you long to return to?

I think about Brawn a lot these days...


What would be your last meal?

Definitely a really good steak, medium rare, chips or some kind of delicious potato, flavourful salads and lots of wine.

Favourite vegetable?

Too hard! If I'm honest it's a potato isn't it.


Most-used condiment?

Really hot chilli sauce.


Most over-rated dish?

There's loads of dumb stuff like freak shakes.


Favourite restaurant not in the UK?

Roberta's for fun. Mission Chinese for that szechuan chicken I think about a lot. Keto & Kote in Tbilisi.
