RAVINDER BHOGAL LAUNCHES “NO BORDERS LOVE” CONFECTIONERY BOX

19/01/2023

Celebrated for her cross-cultural “cooking without borders” and joyful approach to blending flavours across the globe, award-winning chef and restaurateur Ravinder Bhogal and the Jikoni team have created a limited-edition Valentine’s Day Hamper, with only 100 boxes available to purchase.

Available to pre-order from Wednesday 18th January, the “No Borders Love” Box features a selection of unique ‘mithai’ Indian sweets inspired by Ravinder’s maternal figures, whom she wants to honour with their sweet love language, sugar pushing and traditions. For her, the intent of this box is to celebrate all kinds of love; romance, friendship, care and craft, freedom and community, encouraging customers to be inclusive, gifting to different and all members of their community in an act of generosity, as well as their partners.

Like Ravinder’s cooking style at Jikoni, each sweet represents immigrant cross-cultural cooking. From an Indian-inspired Pedha, a milky fudge with white chocolate and saffron; a Salted tahini, date and chocolate cup using dates from Zaytoun, a Palestinian social enterprise whose work continues to inspire the team; and a Kenyan Mexican Baobab and Tajin Ladoo that is sweet and sour all at once. The box is held together with a stunning paper peony corsage designed by Karen Hsu, close friend of Jikoni’s and popular East London artist behind The Pom Pom Factory.

The handcrafted No Borders Love box is priced at £45 (plus £10.50 for shipping) and includes:

2 x White Chocolate and Saffron Pedha

2 x Burnt Honey, Rosemary and Pistachio Barfi

2 x Baobab and Tajin Ladoo

2 x Salted Tahini, Date and Chocolate Cups

On creating the No Borders Love Box Ravinder notes: “The power of sweets is their ability to briefly blot out almost any pain. From a few simple ingredients, honey, sugar, flour, nuts and spices you can create something that shows affection to those you love. There aren’t many things in this world immune from ill will — but for me, a delicious box of confectionery – especially one that in our divided world celebrates so many cultures and culinary traditions, is one of them.”

The 100 limited edition boxes will be available to pre-order on the Jikoni website from Wednesday 18th January to be delivered on Valentine’s Day. £1 from every box sold will be donated to Tommy’s, a pregnancy charity that funds research into miscarriage, still and premature birth.
