TURNIPS GOES PERMENANT
We are excited to announce Turnips with Tomas Lidakevicius (formerly executive chef at Jason Atherton's City Social) is to become a permanent restaurant under the arches of Borough Market, bringing its produce driven, heavily foraged menu to those visiting central London’s most historic market.
The latest lockdown provided Charlie Foster, whose family have been stallholders for over 30 years, with the opportunity to refit the space in which the pop-up had become a sell-out success, and ensure its permanence. They will now run an informal sharing plates menu day and night, along with a 6-course fine dining option in the evening.
Unparalleled in atmosphere – with heated market-side tables and chairs situated amongst the seasonal fruit and veg stand from which Turnips trade – the conception of every dish begins with Tomas and Charlie walking around the stall and discussing what ingredients they'd most like to showcase. Foraged goods and fermentation are also focal to the menu.
Highlights on the tasting menu might include French Peas, Sicilian Lemon, Norwegian King Crab; Chicken of the Woods, Morels, Lamb; or Wild Sea Buckthorn, Greek Yoghurt, Bermondsey Honey.
Cocktails such as a Pea Negroni or Fermented Old Fashioned, mirror the ethos of the food by focusing on the raw product first and foremost.
