CAROUSEL ANNOUNCES NEW YEAR'S EVE BASH NAMED PAIRED

17/11/2022

Carousel and AVA present PAIRED, a brand new series launching this New Year’s Eve, inspired by the rich and fertile creative terrain where food, music and experience overlap.

The idea is simple: pair some of the world’s most exciting chefs with the most respected DJs and watch as the magic unfolds. Each chef x DJ pairing is a one-off, completely unique to that time and place and the audience who’s there to experience it.

A first for the Charlotte Street culinary hub, PAIRED will take place across all five of Carousel’s interconnected spaces, incorporating the wine bar, the guest chef dining room, No. 23 and the White and Green Rooms upstairs.

Making the most of Carousel’s unique 9,000 sq ft platform, it promises to be a one-of-a-kind event that’s the latest in a long line of creative collaborations between brothers Ed and Ollie Templeton, and Sarah McBriar, founder of AVA, “one of the world’s most exciting electronic festivals” (Mixmag).

LINE-UP

Curated and orchestrated by Carousel and the AVA audiovisual arts festival and conference, PAIRED brings together Rosio Sanchez x Call Superand Emme Prieto x Yung Singh for a simultaneous multisensory experience across Carousel’s two floors.

With two sittings for each DJ / h pairing (1.30pm-4.30pm and 7.30pm-10.30pm), PAIRED will connect inquisitive, like-minded people across the table in an intimate, low-key environment where food, drink and music all take centre stage for the night.

Later, when desserts are cleared, late-entry guests will join them to see in the New Year with DJ sets from Yung Singh, Call Super and special guests.

KEY INFO

Each collaboration features a seven-course tasting menu from the chef accompanied by a unique soundtrack performed live by the DJ. The two will work together to create something that’s completely unique to them, weaving together myriad flavours and musical influences to create a singular multisensory experience that’s never to be repeated.

Tickets are priced at £145 (early sitting) and £195 (late sitting) and include a glass of Telmont Champagne on arrival. Bespoke drinks pairings will be available to order on the day.

Carousel and AVA will be donating a portion of ticket sales to StreetSmart and Midland Langar Seva Society. The total raised will be generously matched by the artists and the organisers are holding back a number of seats for community heroes.

If guests would like to contribute to PAIRED’s chosen charities, an optional £10 donation per ticket can be added at checkout.

TALENT

ROSIO SANCHEZ – Sanchez & Hija de Sanchez – Copenhagen

Born in Chicago, Rosio began her career in legendary wd~50 in New York before joining René

Redzepi’s team at Noma, first as head pastry chef, then in the R&D kitchen. She went solo in 2015, launching her taqueria, Hija de Sanchez. An instant smash hit, it would become the first in a family of wildly popular contemporary Mexican restaurants in Copenhagen championing imported organic ingredients.

CALL SUPER

Call Super is the primary moniker of Joseph Richmond Seaton, a DJ and musician from London who has carved out his own place in the landscape of electronic music. Defined by a meticulous approach to the composition, production, art direction and presentation of his work, every release encapsulates his idiosyncratic vision. It is a colourful world that gives life to the shadows and throws a mist over the boundaries that have become so commonplace in electronic music

EMME PRIETO - Taverna - Mexico City

At Taverna on Calle General Prim, Emme’s unwavering commitment to simplicity, freshness and provenance has been hitting the high notes, singling him out as one of the rising stars of Mexican gastronomy. Emme’s life-long passion for cooking has taken him all over the world with his dynamic ‘Mesa Nomada’ project, but it’s the traditional flavours of Mexico that inspire him each day. Returning to Carousel for a third time with Paired, Emme enjoyed sold out reidencies at Carousel in 2019 and 2022

YUNG SINGH

This DJ’s sound is firmly rooted in UK soundsystem culture, earning his stripes in the booths of seminal London venues Corsica Studios, Fabric and XOYO. As a core crew member of the leading Asian underground crew Daytimers, he’s at the forefront of a thriving new scene for the South Asian Diaspora. He strives to counter racism and cultural erasure and is not afraid to challenge the corners he disagrees with.

ORGANISERS

PAIRED has been created by the teams behind Carousel & AVA.

CAROUSEL

Carousel’s award-winning culinary hub is home to a revolving line-up of guest chef collaborations, workshops and events. With over 300 chef residencies under its belt, Carousel has been a spring board for up and coming talent and a platform for some of the hottest chefs internationally, from Jeremy Chan (Ikoyi) to Nancy Singleton Hachisu (Japan).

After seven years in Marylebone, Carousel opened in its new home on Charlotte Street in November 2021, adding a neighbourhood wine bar to their ever-changing guest chef programme. Upstairs there’s a private dining room and a large event space, while sixten-seater ‘side hustle’ No. 23 hosts longer-term residencies from Carousel’s growing chef community.

Carousel is featured in the 2022 Michelin Guide.

AVA

AVA is an Audio Visual Arts Festival & Conference that celebrates, amplifies and develops

electronic music, visual art and immersive technology. Since 2015, AVA has hosted over 100 events and festivals, streamed to over 25 million people worldwide and nurtured hundreds of artists through their conference, now London’s leading Electronic Music Conference. The AVA team specialises in curation, conferences, installations, workshops and producing cutting-edge live events.

Named ‘one of the world’s most exciting electronic festivals’ by Mixmag in 2022, AVA has been described by The Independent as a ‘Cultural Catalyst’, by the Irish Times as ’Ireland’s Most Innovative Electronic Music Festival’ and by the Guardian as ‘One of the Top Ten City Music Festivals in the UK’.

‘We are delighted to finally launch PAIRED. I have worked with DJs and chefs for many years, and I know that the passion and creativity shared by each artist are equally inspiring and this creativity needs to be combined and platformed in a space for audiences to explore and enjoy a collective journey. This is the beginning of an exciting chapter in both the AVA and Carousel book, and I am excited to see where this goes.’ Sarah McBriar, founder of AVA.
