CLARIDGE’S TO HOST A RARE HIGH TEA WITH RARE CHARITY

16/09/2024

On Sunday 10th November Claridge’s will be hosting a one-off Rare High Tea with a host of renowned chefs, raising money for Rare Charity. The charity funds education in tea communities, some of the most marginalised areas in the world’s poorest countries, aiming to give ambitious young people the agency to uplift themselves, their households and their communities.

The event will be Rare Charity’s first major event in five years, hosted by Rare Tea Company founder, Henrietta Lovell, and television personality, Alexander Armstrong, with tickets available by donation or prize draw (full details below). A specially curated High Tea menu will be served, with savoury dishes from Santiago Lastra, Thomasina Miers and baker Richard Hart, while Ravneet Gill and Claridge’s own pastry chef, Thibault Hauchard, will be creating desserts for the event, all overseen by Claridge’s Executive Chef, Simon Attridge. Accompanying tea and cocktails will be crafted and served by Max Venning of Three Sheets fame and Henrietta.

As well as the High Tea menu, the event will feature a charity auction and opportunities to hear some of the scholar’s stories. Auction prizes include: private dining for twelve at Claridge’s Chef Table and the “last table” at Noma’s final season in Spring 2025.

Funds raised will support the latest graduates from Rare Charity’s secondary school programme in Malawi to continue their academic success in tertiary education. Working closely with partners in tea-growing areas, the tailored scholarships help young people build the knowledge, skills, and self-belief to affect change in their lives and communities. The event will also help fund the launch of a new programme for young women in Nepal, supporting them in completing their secondary education.

“This is a very rare and exclusive event - we are looking for supporters to join us in changing the world a little bit for the better.

We know our programmes are working. Our focus is tight and direct. By working specifically in tea communities, we can see a concentrated positive impact as more of our scholars graduate and invest their skills as medics, teachers and business leaders.”

HENRIETTA LOVELL, FOUNDER OF RARE CHARITY
