CULT US BURGER SLINGERS LUCKY BUNS TO COME TO CAROUSEL

24/05/2022

Landing on the 23rd June, US burger slingers Lucky Buns will bring their award-winning patties to No.23, Carousel’s ‘side hustle’ for long term residencies. In their first opening outside of America, Lucky Buns will occupy No.23’s twelve-seater casual dining space on Charlotte Street. They’ll be serving up burgers, wings and riffs on classic cocktails inspired by the clashing burger cultures of the world – from the Australasian surf-shack style buns to the pure Americana-style joy of their double-stacks.

Founder Alex McCoy’s burgers have developed a cult following along the East Coast since Lucky Buns’ inception in 2017, with two locations in Washington D.C, a third in Baltimore, and a fourth opening in in the pipeline. Hand formed beef patties meet house-made pickles and sauces, while crispy fried chicken thighs are coated with Thai chilli relish and D.C’s infamous export Mumbo Sauce. The result? Towering burgers that are consistently ranked amongst both the East Coast and the U.S’ very best.

Now, as they vacation to the other side of the Atlantic, they’re bringing their classic flavours with them - and then some. The menu, especially designed for No.23, is Lucky Buns on steroids; louder flavours, juicier drinks and dishes that pay a cheeky homage to the UK’s burger scene, too. Mouth-watering appetisers kick things off, followed by Lucky Buns’ selection of their pimped-up favourites.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE LONDON MENU INCLUDE…

Mumbo Nugs - Crispy fried buttermilk chicken nugs, spicy Thai chilli mumbo sauce, fried chillies, peanuts, crispy garlic, herby salad

Dirty Cadillac Nachos – Angelina’s braised pinto beans, crispy tortilla chips, dive bar green chilli queso, 3 kinds of salsa, cotija cheese, charred jalapeño crema & all the fixins
‘Lucky Bun’ - Double beef patties, gouda cheese, Lucky sauce, rocket, charred red onion, house dill pickles
Bogan Bun - Double beef patties, gouda cheese, streaky bacon, bacon XO jam, Lucky

Hot Tiger Bun – Crispy fried chicken thigh, spicy AF habanero-Szechuan chilli oil, buttermilk ranch, Chinese mustard, shaved onion, house dill pickles

Loco Moco Fries - With Hawaiian curry gravy

In preparation for Lucky Buns’ landing, the space inside No.23 will be given an interior refresh to match the fun, late-night dive bar style of the Lucky Buns’ US locations. Think vibrant neons, twinkling lights and beachside vibes, made for XXL flavours and summertime cocktails.

Brothers Ed and Ollie Templeton first met Alex McCoy in 2016, hosting his “hellishly spicy” Thai-inspired pop-up, Alfie’s, two years running at the old Carousel. Alex cooked burgers for staff food and the Lucky Buns seed was planted…

“Alex shares our love of travel, adventure, and spicy food – and he’s a big believer in collaborations. He also makes unreal burgers. When we were coming up with the concept behind No. 23, Lucky Buns was one of the first brands we thought of. Serendipitously, he’d been thinking about a London opening for a while. The planets obviously aligned!” says Ed Templeton.

Alex McCoy of Lucky Buns adds: “The Lucky Buns team couldn’t be more stoked to sling double stacks with our buddies at Carousel. Carousel is one of those unique places around the world that truly embrace innovation and artistry within our industry. More than that, they’re just a great group of awesome people who love what they do. When it comes to these Buns, it’s all about great people, juicy burgers, frosty frozen cocktails and rad jams.”

Lucky Buns at Carousel No. 23 Charlotte Street will serve their burgers and cocktails from 12 ‘til late, six days a week. The site will have 12 covers for casual dining, with pick-up orders available throughout the day.
