Raven Smith is officially the funniest man on Instagram. He previously wrote for Nowness and British Vogue and is now a columnist at Sunday Times Style. His online wit and insight has captured the zeitgeist, leading to the publication of his debut book Trivial Pursuits.
What was one of the very first dishes you remember eating?
I remember baking a lot of cakes as a kid but little about the actual taste.
Who is your food hero?
The goddess, Nigella. I often re-read the introduction to Domestic Goddess, it’s the right kind of intense.
What is your guiltiest food pleasure?
Chips
Which restaurant to you long to return to?
We’re spoilt for choice in London, but I have to say the crumby pizzeria near my house in France. The food is truly unremarkable and I’ve never been happier.
What would be your last meal?
Something with homicidal amounts of butter because fuck it.
What dish do you cook the most at home?
Anna Jones’s carrot daal is on constant rotation.
What restaurant T-shirt would you wear?
I love my St John red pig for Chinese new year. Those Padella football ones are on my list.
Favourite vegetable?
Broccoli
Most-used condiment?
Pillars and pillars of salt. Does that count?

Favourite restaurant not in the UK?
L'avant Comptoir De La Mer in Paris. It’s standing-only (!) and the menu is on the celling
Favourite fast food joint?
McDonald’s. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

Ketchup is always ketchup, where mayo is flexible and can be pimped and augmented. But I still choose ketchup.

Boli. I only drink Stella if there’s straight guys I want to impress
