SUMMER AT AKUB

Introducing akub’s summer activities. The modern Palestinian restaurant will continue to host monthly charitable supper clubs across the year with the next installation on 15th July with Muaddi Distilery to celebrate premium Palestinian spirit Arak.
Across the sunnier months, new seasonal plates and drinks will also be added to the menu including Beitinjan bil tahinia and a refreshing Freekah salad. Looking to the later half of 2024, in October third-generation ceramicist Nur Minawi will be officially launching their collection of ceramics in partnership with akub.
Supper Clubs in aid of Medical Aid Palestine, Anera, and Amos Trust to raise vital funds for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
In the coming months, akub and Chef Fadi will be co-hosting additional supper clubs on 15th July with premium Palestinian spirit Arak from Muaddi Distillery, on 23rd September Chef Fadi will be joined by Taybeh Winery for a paired dinner, and on 14th October, ceramicist Nur Minawi will join the team to officially launch its crockery collection.
The Arak dinner will include a paired set menu with three distinct Araks; a traditional bottle, an Arak macerated in oak an a herbal arak for guests to sample the aniseed based spirit.
Tickets are £150 per person and can be purchased at akub or on the website. 30% of tickets will go to Medical Aid Palestine, Anera, and Amos Trust to raise vital funds for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
New Summer dishes at akub
To celebrate the start of summer, akub will be introducing seasonal dishes for a menu refresh introducing seasonal flavours like pomegranate, aubergine, cucumber and strawberries.. New dishes include;
Beitinjan bil tahinia
Roasted aubergines, Tahini, Pomegranate seeds, dill, parsley, nigella seeds, pine nuts
Freekeh Salad
Freekeh, Spring greens, carrots, spring onions, mint, parsley
Maftool Salad
Maftoul, preserved lemons, fennel, raisins
Batikh Salad
Fresh Watermelon, watermelon pressed in chilli oil, cucumbers, black olives, almonds, marjoram, mint
Farawla Sumac
Phyllo, strawberries pressed in sumac, strained yoghurt, sumac, pink peppercorns
The drinks menu will also be updated to include a refreshing Rumman Breeze, featuring Mastiha liquor, lemon juice, orange bitters, pomegranate topped with prosecco, and a Kan Ya Makan, a take on a classic Pimms, made up of Vodka, elderflower liquor, watermelon, cucumber bitters, agave, and lime. A non-alcoholic peach iced-tea will also be added.
akub x Nur Minawi ceramics collection
In collaboration with Jaffa local and third-generation Palestinian ceramicist Nur Minawi, akub’s contemporary crockery is now available for customers to purchase online. The collection features nine stoneware pieces, including a mixture of mat and glazed items, all of which are hand-made and crafted using traditional ceramic methods.
Perfect for entertaining guests at home, items include asymmetrical-shaped plates, ideal for serving canapés or larger pieces of meat or fish; glazed deep bowls for dips and pickles; and deep bowls to fill with risottos and slow-cooked stews. Espresso and large cups are also available, elevating that morning coffee ritual. Colours vary from grey, white, and terracotta to pink and green, and each item is dishwasher friendly and available to buy individually or as part of a set.
