THE PLATINUM JUBILEE AFTERNOON TEA LAUNCHES AT FORTNUM & MASON TEA SALON

20/04/2022

Opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2012, the tea salon at Fortnum & Mason will be the must-visit destination of the Platinum Jubilee.

Served every day in the timeless Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, the new Platinum Jubilee menu will celebrate 70 years of the reigning monarch, through inventive takes on quintessential British flavours and techniques. Every element will be curated for an unforgettable experience, from the hand-crafted teapots and linen draped tables, through to the iconic hand painted flower walls, designed by the late David Collins.

Executive Head of Pastry, Roger Pizey, and a brigade of skilled pastry chefs have ensured there will be something for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan, menus made without dairy and gluten, a dedicated Savoury Tea and, for later in the day, High Tea.

The classic menu will begin with a London smoked salmon blini, before delicate finger sandwiches of Coronation chicken, Cotswold Legbar egg mayonnaise, Suffolk cured ham with English mustard and Cucumber with minted pea cream cheese. Freshly baked Scones will follow, served withFortnum’s strawberry preserve, lemon curd and Somerset clotted cream.

Every intricate cake or pastry has a special symbolism relating to Queen Elizabeth. For instance, the delicate swan-shaped Choux Swan, filled with subtly-sweet violet crème pâtissière and finished with a real rose petal, will be a reference to Her Majesty owning all the swans in the UK; whilst the Chocolate Orb, a smooth chocolate marquise mousse crowned with a pearl in tribute to the crown jewels.

Traditionally served in the early evening, High Tea will be the perfect treat for pre-theatre dining. Guests will be able to choose from a selection of delicious hot dishes instead of the classic finger sandwiches, including Victoria Lobster omelette with truffle; Lemon sole with Champagne cream sauce; and Cumbrian beef fillet with Pommes Duchesse.

Innovative and elevated, the unique Savoury menu will be a showcase of afternoon tea artistry. Scones will be served with Tea infused cream cheeseand Platinum beetroot relish; followed by a savoury pastry selection of Oeufs Drumkilbo – an ode to the Queen Mother; Duck mousse with Melba toast; London smoked trout éclair; Mushroom and whisky pâté; and Pea and goats curd mousse with elderflower glaze.

With over 500 pots of tea served every day, Fortnum & Mason has always provided an unparalleled tea drinking experience, with flavours sourced from across the world and also available as part of an expert tea tasting. Alternatively, Fortnum & Mason will invite you to raise a toast with their own label Platinum Jubilee Champagne or Sparkling tea; or the limited-edition Jubilee Beacon cocktail. Named after the beacons which will be lit across the Commonwealth to celebrate the jubilee, the cocktail will take inspiration from The Queen’s favourite tipple - Gin & Dubonnet - with a delicious blend of Fortnum’s London Dry Gin, Jubilee Dubonnet, Royal Vermouth, Fortnum’s Tea & Honey bitters, and Sparkling Tea Foam.
