CELEBRATE THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON AT THE PENINSULA LONDON
24/01/2024
In celebration of Lunar New Year, The Peninsula London will be honouring the Year of the Dragon with a festival of events and special menus between Wednesday 7th February - Friday 16th February.
2024 marks The Year of The Dragon in the lunar calendar; a zodiac sign representing power, nobility and luck. New beginnings will be celebrated in the hotel's Cantonese restaurant, Canton Blue, adorned with festive decorations - hanging red envelopes and Chinese kumquat trees.
The six course Lunar New Year Set Menu (£168pp) from Executive Chef Dicky To is made for feasting, with auspicious dishes to bring good fortune for the year ahead. Steamed dumplings made with crab and scallops; and drunken chicken with goji berries are accompanied by steamed lobster with ginger, spring onion, baijiu and chicken sauce; fried Seabass fillet with mangetout, baby sweet corn and a pistachio honey sauce; and wok-fried British wagyu tenderloin, with garlic, black pepper. For dessert, Firecracker cake with black Sesame and mandarin compote is served to share amongst family and friends.
At Little Blue, Director of Mixology Florian Thireau has created three festive cocktails, to be enjoyed throughout the celebration period. Perry is a mellow highball that showcases the delicacy of pear and Earl Grey, alongside vanilla and cognac; Blossom is a fresh vodka sour, zingy and floral with pine, orange blossom, peppermint and lime; whilst Damson is a twist on the classic Negroni - Campari and Quinquina are blended with the subtle addition of plum and fresh pepper.
On 10th February, guests can expect a series of grand celebrations across The Peninsula London. Chasing away the evil spirits, a vibrant lion and dragon dance will take place in the hotel courtyard at 11am, a ritual to evoke good luck and fortune for the coming year. The lions will be awakened with an eye dotting ceremony, accompanied by spectacular high pole performance and traditional lettuce grabbing to bring blessings of wealth.
The official Canton Blue Lunar New Year celebration period is between 7th - 16th February. Please note the restaurant will be closed on Tuesday 13th February.
The Specialties Menu, showcasing eight festive dishes, will be available to order à la carte across the whole festive period (excluding 10th Lunch) alongside the six course Lunar New Year Set menu, Dim Sum Menu, and regular À la Carte. Pre-bookings are essential and can be made via the website.
