ON THE ROAD: MR LYAN AND THE SEED LIBRARY TEAM PLAN INTERNATIONAL BAR TAKEOVER

15/01/2024

Seed Library, the popular East London bar from critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning Ryan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan, will embark on an international tour to Dublin, Toronto and New York over the next two months. Featuring an exclusive bar takeover, alongside intimate panel talks, the team will be joined by a handful of the world’s leading mixologists. Modern-day ideas on how to adapt to the ever-evolving cocktail scene will remain a core theme throughout.

Ryan and Head Bartender Daniel Garnell will provide insight into the evolution of Seed Library, its drink menu and innovative approach to crafting cocktails. Discussions will serve as a valuable case study for industry professionals and cocktail-lovers alike, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs of operating a bar and highlighting the creative adaptation necessary for continued success.

Kicking off in Dublin at the modern Irish distillery, Roe & Co, Ryan and the team will serve a four-drink cocktail menu between 14th and 16th January. Featuring a Black Fruit Salad, a tequila based cocktail which includes Don Julio 1942, aged strawberry, melon, grape, passionfruit and bubbles; the much loved Koji Hardshake combining koji, miso, cream, sugar, lemon and Scotch; and a non-alcoholic take on the Seed Library signature, the Coriander Seed Gimlet, combining Everleaf non-alcoholic aperitif and coriander seed cordial. This will be followed by a talk hosted by Roe & Co, Daniel and James Wheeler, Head of Bars at Mr Lyan, alongside Diageo representatives.

Back in London and on 17th January James Grant, Director of Mixology at Toronto’s Library Bar and World Class Bartenders 2022 winner, will take over Seed Library -an opportunity for Londoners to experience his contemporary approach to cocktail making. In a similar format to Dublin, the menu will feature four daring serves created by James, including The Birdbath Martini. Guests can opt for the classic version, which includes Quill gin or vodka, house Vermouth blend, orange bitters, lemon oil, olives and pickles, or go Luxe with the addition of soft pretzel and Sturgeon caviar.

Seed Library will then return the favour, heading to North America to the Library Bar and taking the reins on 12th February for an exclusive masterclass before serving their much-loved East London cocktails. The team will also host a trade night on 13th before the final stop on the tour - New York. There they will collaborate with East Village’s acclaimed craft cocktail bar Mister Paradise, known for its impeccable cocktails with a sense of playfulness. For example, a riff on the classic dirty martini using Japanese shochu instead of vodka or gin.

The tour marks an exciting chapter for Seed Library as the bar shares its lo-fi analogue approach and expertise with a global audience, forging new relationships and celebrating the art of mixology on an international scale.
